Welcome to BIGLA 2022 Spring Season!

We will be adding more information to this page as we confirm times and dates for tryouts, practices, and games. You can find forms and documents for parents and players here as well.

For the 2022 Spring Season, we will require a current physical (within the past 24 months) on file with BIGLA prior to tryouts. We can accept the form from this page (see the link to the right) signed by your child's pediatrician or one issued directly from their office.

Meet the Coach

Meet the JV Coach!
Ian Havill
Level 3 US Lacrosse Certified Coach

Coaching Philosophy

My coaching philosophy is built upon a simple honest approach: I am a teacher of life skills through sports.  I strive for myself and the athletes I coach to try to be 1% better every day:  on the field, in the classroom, as a friend, as a colleague, and as a family member.  So much about personal character can be taught on the field:  honesty, integrity, respect, perseverance, reliability, sense of humor, and humility.  These core values are incorporated into my practices and games days, and integrating this aspect of growth within the team builds strong athletes and relationships.  I love to coach because I love the challenge, the continual learning, and the development I see as the season progresses.  I set high standards for both the individual athletes and the team, but also strive to make the season fun, inclusive, and rewarding for all.

Why should I play lacrosse, and what is the Team Environment Like?
It’s Fun!  Whether you’re new to lacrosse, or a returning player who needs to continue to build their lacrosse skills, there is a place on the no cut JV squad. This can be a great introduction to the high school program, while still being competitive. Last year’s JV was undefeated and many of those players from last year will be trying out for varsity this season.

How many games this season?
There are 10 games this season, which will be on weekdays.

How long does the season last?
The season is 10 weeks long, from February 24th to May 1st.

How many practices per week?
There are 4-5 practices per week, and no required practices or games on the weekends. Practices vary in times at BHS and Battlepoint.

Who is the JV coach?
Ian Havill!

Do I have to have any prior experience?
Not at all! Players of all levels are encouraged to join the team.

Does everybody make the team?
Yes! Whether it be on Varsity or JV, there is a place for everyone in our program.

Is there a pathway from JV to Varsity?
Yes! Ask your coach! He or she will be able to give you helpful tips for sharpening your skills or conditioning outside of regular practice.

Do I have to try for Varsity?
No, tryouts are for Varsity only.

Is there an age cutoff for JV?
No, you can play JV all four years of high school!

Do I have to tryout?
No, but attendance on the following dates is required for JV: February 24th to February 28th, from 6:30-8:15pm at BHS Stadium.

Do I have to attend preseason?
No, but if you want to come out and try it, please do!

Do I need to buy my own stick?
It is recommended, but if you want to borrow a stick from a friend or the club, ask the group chat or contact Julie Fox @401-835-0654.

What gear do I need to play?
You will need a stick, goggles, a mouthguard, and cleats.

How do I find out more about the practice schedule?
Ask someone you know on the team, and they can add you to the group chat!

How can I practice/improve on my own?
A good way to prepare is to be active! Running and wall ball are great ways to do this on your own!

Do I need lacrosse cleats?
Either soccer cleats or lacrosse cleats work!

How do I get to away games?
Players will carpool and ride together in cars driven by volunteer parents.

How much does it cost?
The fee is $535 for the season. This covers referees, fields, uniforms, coaches, and other costs.

Can my parent(s) volunteer?
Yes, the more involvement, the better the program! There is a buyout option as well if they have a conflict in their schedule.

Are there any fundraising programs?
We have one fundraising activity, which is the Dirt Sale: Organic Compost and Potting Soil from Cedar Grove!

What if I have more questions?
Come to the meeting, which is January 28th at the BHS library from 7-8pm and visit
